Documented Life Project 2016: January Week 3

I filmed my second video in my Documented Life Project for week 3 of January.  Even though I’m running a little bit behind with the weekly prompts, I’m keeping the “unplanner” part up to date.  I’m not using the book as a planner but rather as a place to journal little bits about what’s happening on specific days.  Some days stay empty and I try to fill those with magazine images to take up the white space.

This page uses a few collage elements such as book pages, a magazine image, die cut flowers and a “quote”.  I enjoy watching other collage artists on YouTube and I wanted to practice putting together a page using pictures from magazines.  Sometimes it takes the pressure off to combine other people’s images than to create them yourself.

Supplies are listed below as well as some photos of the finished page.  Thanks for watching and please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already done so!

Art Journal Page – Imagination (time lapse video)

The more art journal pages I see, the more I find I’m attracted to those with really bright colours.  I searched for some reasonably priced neon acrylics and bought a small pack of Artists Loft acrylic paints at Michael’s.  I wanted to test them out and this page was result.  I was hoping for an opaque finish but these are only semi-opaque (transparent).  I’m still happy with the results though.  They are still very bright, even after they dry.  I also wanted to use up some of my old supplies, like the rub-ons and flower embellishments.

I’m happy with how this one turned out.  Not every page needs to be a finished piece of artwork.  Sometimes the pages in our journal are experiments with new supplies.  Each page is a learning experience.

I love the fall!  The weather is the perfect temperature and the trees look so beautiful.  Continuing in that theme, I made this tag using a fortune cookie fortune from my growing collection!  The fortune reads “Your world will always be colourful and full of happiness”.  You can watch the process below on my YouTube channel.  All supplies that I used are listed below with links to my Amazon store.  Please “like”, share and comment and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel to see more videos like this one!

#LoveFallArt – Art Journal Page – Gothic Lady (time lapse video)

This is my second video for the #LoveFallArt festival happening this weekend on YouTube!  This is organized by the Creative Arts Collaboration group and is running from September 17th to 20th.  The theme is Fall/Autumn and all you have to do is type in #LoveFallArt into the YouTube search bar to see an amazing variety of artistic and creative videos made specifically for this event.

I love art with a gothic theme.  Since we are heading into autumn and Halloween, I took this chance to make this art journal page.  I found the image of the shrouded woman in a magazine and have been waiting to use it.  I chose to do this page on a loose sheet because of its size.  The loose pages can be bound later into a book.

Thanks for watching!

fortune cookie series #1 – mixed media tag

fortune cookie 1-3My husband and I like to treat ourselves to Chinese food and we have subsequently built up a good collection of fortune cookie “fortunes”.  Some have been pretty random but others were surprisingly accurate!  After hanging them on the fridge for the last year, I have decided to use them in a series of tags.  Each tag will have one fortune and this is the first of many to come. I started with a manilla tag (dimensions below) and collaged pieces of scrapbook paper and book pages on top.  I painted some metallic paint over top to blend the papers together.  I had to stamp the Eiffel Tower image twice, unfortunately, so it isn’t as clear as it could be but I can live with it.  Mistakes happen so roll with it!  Tim Holtz diamond stamp with Distress Ink and tissue tape was used to embellish the side and bottom.  I secured the tissue tape down with Golden Soft Gel (Matte) medium. fortune cookie 1- 1The final steps were stamping with bubble wrap and gesso to get some white highlights and I added the lace and embellishment just below the sentiment.  I finished by doodling around the white circles and added the fibres at the top of the tag. fortune cookie 1-5 fortune cookie 1-4Supplies:

art journal page – a house without books (journal52)

Windows3Do you ever get working on a page and then forget to take pictures of the process to post on your blog?  That’s me today so this is it.   This is week 6 of Journal52 and the prompt was “Windows”.  I thought I had an idea for this page but while I was looking through my stash, I found this photo I took a few years ago while out on a hike with friends.  I started with gesso and a layer of teal and white acrylic paint.  Next I stenciled the “cracks” and stamped the grid pattern with teal ink.  I glued down the black cardstock and layed down the drywall tape.  The photo was glued down next.  I layered the lace and ribbon along the bottom of the photo and arranged the flower embellishments.  I finished it off with doodling around the edge and adding the quote, “A house without books is like a room without windows” – Horace Mann.
