Documented Life Project 2016: January Week 3

I filmed my second video in my Documented Life Project for week 3 of January.  Even though I’m running a little bit behind with the weekly prompts, I’m keeping the “unplanner” part up to date.  I’m not using the book as a planner but rather as a place to journal little bits about what’s happening on specific days.  Some days stay empty and I try to fill those with magazine images to take up the white space.

This page uses a few collage elements such as book pages, a magazine image, die cut flowers and a “quote”.  I enjoy watching other collage artists on YouTube and I wanted to practice putting together a page using pictures from magazines.  Sometimes it takes the pressure off to combine other people’s images than to create them yourself.

Supplies are listed below as well as some photos of the finished page.  Thanks for watching and please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already done so!

New Year with New Projects!

We are now more than three weeks into 2016 and I’m sure we are all excited about the new projects that we have started this year!  As for me, I have made my creative resolutions and I’m ready to take on new challenges.  Last year I found it difficult to keep up with all of the great content that’s out there and it caused me to have a creative block.  This year, I’m going to forgive myself if I’m unable to complete all of the projects and prompts that I set out to do.  Being an artist is not about stressing yourself out over deadlines.  It’s about practicing your craft in a way that makes you happy!

This year there are going to be more great #hashtag events hosted by the Creative Arts Collaboration group on YouTube which I’m excited to be a part of.  Keep an eye out for those!

The other project that I’m excited about is The Documented Life Project 2016: The Unplanner!  I’m new to this project this year and since we are encouraged to make it our own, I’ve decided to combine the planner aspect with art journaling.  I wasn’t able to purchase the kit that was offered from Art to 5th so I’m using a wire bound sketch book that I have had for years but never used.  I started by gluing every three pages together to give them more stability for wet media.  I printed out the calendar pages on white cardstock and coloured them by dropping watercolour paints to make big splotches.  I used old scrapbook paper as a background to give it a little more colour.  I glued them down using adhesive tape.

Since we are encouraged to make this project our own, I’ve decided to do a weekly art journal page using the prompts that we are provided.  List making is also part of these weekly prompts and I haven’t decided whether I will do those or not.  I’m not really a list maker but I figure if there’s one that I’m drawn to, I can always put it into my book as a tip in.  I also want to use this as a smash book and keep little mementos throughout the year and write little notes about what is happening in our lives.

Art Journal Page – Believe in your Dream (time lapse video)

After a couple of weeks trying to figure out my camera trouble, I was finally able to sit down and do this page.  This was an experiment to see how embossing would work on top of acrylic paints.  I have to say, I love how it turned out!  There was some complications with the embossing powder sticking to other wet mediums on the page (my fault, I should have thought of that beforehand), but I was able to brush away the excess to get a relatively clear embossed image.  My goal is to use this technique on canvas board.

Art Journal Page – Nevermore (time lapse video)

With Halloween approaching, I’m continuing with the gothic theme for this page.  I have had this wooden stamp featuring the raven from Edgar Allan Poe’s poem for a long time, and finally found a place to use it.  Once I came up with idea, the page came together pretty quickly.  Have a look at the video below to see how it turns out!  Supplies used are listed below the photos at the end of this post and some can be purchased through my Amazon Affiliate store (links provided).

#LoveFallArt – Art Journal Page – Gothic Lady (time lapse video)

This is my second video for the #LoveFallArt festival happening this weekend on YouTube!  This is organized by the Creative Arts Collaboration group and is running from September 17th to 20th.  The theme is Fall/Autumn and all you have to do is type in #LoveFallArt into the YouTube search bar to see an amazing variety of artistic and creative videos made specifically for this event.

I love art with a gothic theme.  Since we are heading into autumn and Halloween, I took this chance to make this art journal page.  I found the image of the shrouded woman in a magazine and have been waiting to use it.  I chose to do this page on a loose sheet because of its size.  The loose pages can be bound later into a book.

Thanks for watching!
