I’m a little behind with the weekly prompts (didn’t take me long!) but here’s week 3 “Conversation Starters” for Journal52. I thought the question “What is art?” might stir up a little discussion.
I started with a base layer of gesso followed by the same technique I used on my previous page (and same colour scheme). I alternated between four brightly coloured craft paints and spread them on with a brush, mixing white to soften the colour a little bit.
I added some texture using patterned scrapbook papers and drywall tape. Then I stenciled on top of that.
More stenciling in bright colours and drippage down from the top of the page. I just wanted to keep making a mess!
Then came the focal image. I didn’t find a picture that I thought was appropriate so I decided to go against the grain and use a tag instead of an actual image. I sprayed the tag with two glimmer mists by Tattered Angels and set it aside to dry. Some white paint splatters added some interest and texture.
Then more of a mess! Drywall tape for more texture, stenciling, bubble wrap stamping and drippage.
Adding the sentiment and yarns was next. Gluing the tag down onto the page was a bit of a challenge and took many heavy bottles to keep it weighed down enough until it dried. Final touches were the black circles and splatters and some doodles and outlines and black and white.
